Design Choices

Theme

I wanted the theme and style to emulate a classic and modern colour blocking style. Colour blocking is a fashion style that I love, it is a huge trend in fashion this year and was in the 80’s, 2010 and 2011. Colour blocking is the neutral blocking of colours, though influencers and celebrities are playing with some bold hues instead, also mashing up with bright accessories, giving it an edgier vibe with eye-catching monochromatic mixing and pairing of colours. Going with the trend of colour blocking I wanted to incorporate timeless style as well, classic and modern. I also used Marie Claire as an inspiration for the theme, the colours and style in which they were used. My Banner was also used as inspiration for the theme using the colours and style, thought it also played as an example for my future career and the aesthetic that I like. I wanted to keep my theme and style of my website simple and clear, so it is easier to navigate.

Fonts

I chose these fonts because they are older style classic fonts with a modern take to them.

Rozha One

Rozha One is a single font and does not have a family and is a very high contrast Open Source font. Rozha One is a support script for Devanagari and Latin, primarily created for display use. The emphasis and difference between its letters’ thick and thin strokes make it a prime choice for large headlines, headings and poster-sized graphics. Rozha One was created by the Indian Type Foundry and released in 2014; its Devanagari character set was designed by Tim Donaldson and Jyotish Sonowal and Latin designed by Shiva Nallaperumal.I'm a paragraph. Poppins Extra Light

Poppins Extra Light is a part of a typographic family that has 18 different styles, the family is called Poppins. Poppins Extra Light is a geometric sans serif typeface. The letterforms are nearly monolinear, with optical corrections to stroke joints where necessary to maintain even typographic colour. The Poppins typographic family is popular in Devanagari and Latin and supported by Devanagari and Latin writing systems. The Devanagari is designed by Ninad Kale and the Latin is designed by Jonny Pinhorn.I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. It’s easy. Colour Palette

I like reds with greyscale cause the red to give the simple and clean looking greyscale colours a pop of colour and draws the eye.

Marie Claire has a colour scheme of mostly black on a white or grey background with red here and there as a pop of colour.

Maroon (Darker Red) monochromatic colour scheme. Red is associated with being exciting, dramatic, and a rich colour. Red is also the colour of passion. Maroon, a darker shade of red, has a rich, indulgent feeling about it—in fact, it can be quite hoity-toity.

Greyscale monochromatic colour scheme. In design, white is often overlooked because it’s the default background colour. In Western cultures, white is the colour of perfection, light, and purity. Black often invokes negative connections such as death and evil, though it can also be a colour of power, elegance and strength, depending on how it’s used.

Banner

I chose to relate my banner to magazines and fashion. I decided not to incorporate text into my banner because I thought it would draw away from the imagery. The image to me represents magazines and their structure, as well as fashion. The accessories partially represent the accessories in fashion and they also bring colour. I got my colour scheme Marie Claire’s Website and from my banner. The banner related to my colour scheme and my theme.
